KPI Templates

A template is a scorecard: which of the 29 metrics count for a role, and how much each category and metric is weighted. Build it once, and every review cycle that uses it scores people the same, fair way.

Why templates exist

A developer, a call-centre agent and a warehouse operator should not be judged on the same mix. A template lets you emphasise what matters for a role — heavy on Support Quality for a front-line agent, heavy on Task Performance for a developer — and disable what doesn't apply. This is the standard “weighted scorecard” approach: a handful of well-chosen, weighted drivers rather than one flat number.

The template builder

The Add/Edit modal has two simple fields and one big configurator:

  1. Name & Description

    Name is required; Description is optional. Give it a role-obvious name like “Customer-Facing / Support”.

  2. Metrics Configuration

    An accordion with one collapsible panel per category (all 8). Each category header shows a live count of how many of its metrics you've enabled. Inside a category panel you set:

    • Category Weight (%) — how much this whole category counts toward the composite.
    • For each metric: an enable checkbox, the metric's label, a Manual badge if it isn't automated, a weight (%) box (only editable once the metric is ticked), and a small note showing the metric's unit and direction ( higher-is-better / lower-is-better).
  3. Hit 100%

    A footer shows the running Total of your category weights. It stays red until the categories sum to exactly 100%, then turns blue: “Total of all category weights must equal 100%.” Save is only meaningful once you're at 100.

The category weights are what must total 100%. Metric weights within a category do not need to pre-sum to anything — the engine blends them as a weighted average over whichever metrics actually produced a value, normalizing by the weights present. So a metric with no data simply hands its weight to its siblings.

Category weights are validated to total exactly 100. Set a category to 0 to switch it off for this role.

Null metrics redistribute

A metric with no data (or a disabled one) hands its weight to the remaining metrics in its category automatically — no one is penalised for missing data.

Keep it focused

Best practice is 3–8 active drivers per scope. Each category carries 3–5 metrics; disable the long tail to keep a scorecard readable.

Thresholds can be tuned

A metric's rating thresholds can be overridden per template — handy for volume metrics like Task Throughput where “a lot” differs by role.

The 5 built-in weight profiles

The module ships five role-based category-weight distributions you can use as a starting point. Each totals 100%. Copy the mix that fits, then fine-tune.

Notice the logic: Customer-Facing and Operations lean on attendance (they must be present); Developers lean on tasks and development; Management leans on project delivery. The mix is the role definition.

Watch for “Manual” metrics

Six metrics can't be measured automatically and show a Manual badge in the builder. If you enable one, someone has to type its value for each employee every cycle (see Manual Entries). Only enable a manual metric if you're prepared to maintain it.
