Before you start
Make sure the following are in place before your first sale. If anything is missing, ask your supervisor:
- You can sign in to ERPat and see Point of Sale in the left menu.
- You are assigned to your store — this is what lets you select it at the register.
- Your store has an active terminal (the till device you will use).
- You have your starting cash (float) counted and ready to declare.
- Your permissions allow you to operate the register and, if you will manage your own till, to open and close a shift.
First-time setup
The setup work below is normally done once by head office or your supervisor, not by cashiers. It is listed so you understand what stands behind your register:
- A region and store are created, and the store is bound to a backing warehouse for stock.
- One or more terminals are registered against the store.
- Staff are assigned to the store so they may operate it.
- The store assortment is built — the list of products, prices, and reorder levels the store may sell.
Once those exist, the store is "POS-ready" and you can open a shift.
Your first task
Opening a shift is the first thing you do each day. It records your starting cash and ties every sale to you and your terminal.
- Go to Point of Sale > Register in the left menu.
- If you have no open shift, the Open shift panel appears.
- Choose your store from the dropdown (only stores you are assigned to are shown).
- Choose your terminal for that store.
- Type your starting cash — the float you counted into the drawer.
- Click Open shift. The shift bar turns green and shows your store, terminal, and open time.
You are now ready to sell. From here you can scan or search products, build a cart, and check out. See How to process a sale for the full checkout steps.
If you already have an open shift when you arrive, the register opens straight to the selling screen — you do not open a second shift.
